What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is nothing new and nothing complicated. It is simply ‘being in the now, connected to yourself’.

Just check for yourself the following:

How often are you thinking about the past? Which is gone and done…….

How much time do you spend thinking about the future? Which is a fantasy as it might not even happen…..

How much do you think about other people, why they do things, what they do, how they live? They are not part of you, and get in the way of connecting to yourself…

The answers to these questions are most likely: a  lot, or even, most of the time.

Which means that most of your life you spend ‘mindless’, living on automatic pilot and not very aware.

 Mindfulness definition

Eckhard Tolle, the author of ‘The Power of Now’, and one of the guru’s of mindfulness defines as follows:

“When you recognize that there is a voice in your head that pretends to be you and never stops speaking, you are awakening out of your unconscious identification with the stream of thinking. When you notice that voice, you realize that who you are, is not the voice — the thinker — but the one who is aware of it.”

Mindfulness is the state of being where you observe what you are doing instead of being involved in what you are doing. And the key to create the skill of observing lies in meditation.

Meditation

Research has shown that within weeks of starting the practice of meditation, the brain changes and the activitiy in our resilience center and the happiness circuit are up to 30x more than before meditation, as well as a reduction in the activity of the amygdala, our stress center.

Meditators report better concentration, energy, feeling calmer and in control.
