pillsMedication or meditation? Not difficult to answer if you know that meditation has the same effect as medication

Depression sufferers can swap their pill for meditation, as a new study reveals that the effect of both in the treatment of depression show exactly the same. The study only looked at meditators who did practice just 2 months or less. What can be achieved in a short time, can easily expand when the practice is done for longer.

A clear benefit of meditation over medication is that it doesn’t cause any side effect. On the contrary, meditators usually report other benefits such as better focus, better sleep and more energy.

Meditation in Surrey

One of my recent clients, let’s call her Sarah, had been on medication for years and was keen to reduce her intake and if possible, even ditch her medication for ever. She started her meditation enthusiastically, but found it hard to keep the discipline going. Which is all part of the condition; feeling lethargic and little motivation (What’s the point, sigh, sigh). However, when she came on a regular basis for a ‘mental massage’, it gave her the structure that empowered her to practice daily. And within 2 months she gave up her medication.

‘I know I have to keep the meditation going, but it is not difficult anymore. I have the internal motivation, knowing that this is my cure and that I don’t need to swallow pills anymore.’

Depression hits 1 in 5

Nearly 1 in 5 adults are suffering from anxiety and depression, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Depression is often caused by stress, stress often leads to substance abuse, such as alcohol, which also is known for triggering depression.

By practicing meditation, you can cure depression, but you also go to the roots as meditation will reduce stress levels and result in an overall better mental and physical health.
