There are a lot of misconceptions about meditation. Lots of people think it is about stopping your thoughts…. But how can you stop your thoughts if you need thoughts to make your body do what it needs to do? Your brain is active and alert in order to ensure that you are alive. You don’t stop your body, why would you think you could stop your mind?

Meditation is like a mental fitness training, where you dictate your thoughts to calm down, to not run riot all over the place; it is a tool to take charge. We are used to taking care of our bodies, but unfortunately, most of us have not the slightest idea of how to take care of our minds. I see a lot of stressed clients who mention that their thoughts are all over the place, one sparks another and it seems an unstoppable process.

Not any more.

I will teach you how to control your thoughts, while doing a meditation. Your thoughts are always there, and they should be, but you take charge of them.

Let’s try.

Close your eyes and ……

Then observe your thoughts. Don’t engage, just observe.

If thoughts are popping about you watching, just acknowledge: ‘Hi thought, I would like you to drift away so I can focus again on observing you’

Keep concentrating, then back to natural breathing.

You just did a meditation, where you were fully aware of your thoughts, but not disturbed by them as you were taking control of them. You took the lead. Well done.

You did not think that thoughts could be part of a meditation, but they certainly are.

Become gentle with your mind, your thoughts and allow them to be.

Keep an eye out for the other videos with guidelines; I will give you step by step the information you need to make meditation part of your busy life. Meditation with a Western flavour is my concept, based on Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn, Eckhart Tolle, Buddhism and my own experiences and ideas.
