In a few recent blogs, I have given you tips on how to behave and become more confident. In this blog I give you an actual exercise you can do before you have to perform. This can be as low key as talking to your boss and asking for a pay rise, or as high up as performing on stage.

In order to feel confident and perform with confidence, you need to prepare.

‘He who fails to prepare, prepares to fail’ –  Benjamin Franklin

My brother in law, who is a heart surgeon for over 30 years, still reads through the procedure details before each operation. You assume he would know by now, but in order to do his job properly and with confidence, he makes this part of his preparation.

For you, listen to this tape, get yourself into your power stance and go for it.

Two minutes and you’re on. This is Mariette’s focusing practice for anyone who has to go on stage. Stand with your feet hip width apart. Feel the soles of your feet in contact with the floor. And then breath in through the nose, out through the nose.

And notice cool air coming in, warm air going out. Observe your shoulders and soften them. Observe your abdomen and gently let go of any tension. Just notice the sensations when your abdomen becomes soft and relax.

And then gently track all your energy and all your focus into your abdomen, creating a solid base of certainty, stability, firmness, just what you need. Notice the sensations in your energy has sunken into your abdomen. Notice your feet in contact with the floor and then take a deep breath in and a very slow breath out. Open your eyes and you’re on. Good Luck.

Let me know how you got on.
