how to start the day with a positive attitude

From a distance, I heard an alarm. It kept going and then I realised it was mine. I wasn’t with it. Still tired and sleepy. From the warmth and cosiness of my duvet, I reached out to push the snooze button.

Mollie, my DDD (darling daughter dog) was snuggled up with me. She wasn’t happy either with the disturbance.

We both nested back in our warm cosy retreat. We both heard raindrops and noticed how dark it was in the room. Autumnal.

But it was actually Springtime.

My thoughts slowly got into gear and I made the conscious decision to make today a fun and productive day.

I applied my PAS: positive attitude start of the day.

After years of resisting the start of my day, I discovered that starting it in the right frame of mind made all the difference. And most days, that is what I do.

Positive Attitude Start

PAS consists of 5 ‘actions’ that will change your mental state and improves your happiness. Immediately.

The power is in combining the different actions: it doesn’t cost a lot of time and it is easy to get into the habit. I promise.

  1. Breathe

Deep breathing has a lot of benefits and it makes for an energetic start of the day when your body cells are fuelled with fresh oxygen.

  1. Smile

Several research projects show how powerful a smile is for your well-being. The response of the brain to a smile is similar to eating chocolate: production of happy hormones.

  1. Move

While you breathe and smile, gently start moving your body. Do some stretches, just walk or sway, move your head from one side to the other, it will help your body to engage and wake up.

  1. Be grateful

Feel genuine gratitude for another day in your life. Another chance to experience, love and learn. The science of gratitude proves that practising gratitude enhances your happiness.

  1. Be kind to yourself

Greet yourself lovingly when you ease into the day. Be appreciative and encouraging. You can’t give from an empty cup and kindness to yourself will fill your cup and help you to be kinder to others.

The great thing about PAS is that you can apply all elements at the same time. There is no excuse and no way out.

Start today and let me know how this works out for you.
