Worklifebalance is a creation of your own mindCreating a healthy work-life balance is about detail. It is not about a general moan that ‘things are not working out’ or ‘not having enough time, ever’. It is about drilling down to find out what exactly is working against that balance, so you know exactly what to focus on to make helpful changes.

Step 1 – list the aspects of your work-life balance

An important question to start your discovery is: what areas in my life work well and which ones need improving?

Work-life balance comprises aspects as health, stress, work, pleasure, finances, career, leisure, family, social life, personal and spiritual development. These aspects can differ from person to person, so the first challenge is to list the aspects that are important to you.

Step 2 – mark the percentage of the desired level of each aspects

If your fitness levels are below par and bugging you on a daily basis, you might mark that as 30%. If you just had a windfall, your financial situation might score a 90%. Go through each aspects in order to create a realistic picture of your current situation.

Step 3 – choose one aspect to make changes

There is no point in throwing yourself into a process of big changes. Start with one area, maybe the one that seems the easiest, or the one that seems the most urgent.

Step 4 – list all the changes you could make right now and plan each one

By writing down all the changes you can make and by planning them, you have made a start with taking charge of your situation. You are not sitting, waiting and feeling frustrated, you actually take the bull by the horn and that in itself will give you the positive mindset to continue.
