Cool kids activities during summer school holidays can be a nightmare for parents

It’s a bit of a ply, those school holidays which last forever. Freedom? Yes for the kids, but more effort and work is created for the parents. To keep the little ones occupied and happy is costing a lot of time, energy and often a lot of money too. And as you are facilitating their fun and entertainment, which of course can also be fun for you, at the same time it can be tiring, annoying and frustrating.

Here are 3 things to keep in mind if you want to have a great time too:

  1. Emotional well-being

Don’t let slip of what you really enjoy. You might not be able to go to your weekly yoga class at midday on a Monday, but maybe you can find another way of having your yoga fix. A drop-in class run by someone else at a better time? A video you can do early in the morning when everyone is asleep? The run with your friends, your meditation or the course you are doing. Not all of these have to come to a halt, just because the schools are closed. Make sure you are looking after you, making time to do the things that really make you happy.

  1. Physical well-being

Are you eating daily ice creams, because the holidays allow you to? Is your diet out of the window? Have exercise routines stopped? Keep an eye out for your fitness levels and your waistline. You know you feel better when you are fitter and slimmer, so don’t throw that down the drain.

  1. Mental well-being

How is work suffering during August? Are you getting behind with everything or can you manage to do the minimum to keep on top of work? Especially self-employed mums have to juggle a lot. Don’t set your expectations too high, but likewise, make sure you don’t lose momentum.

Holidays are particularly challenging when it comes to managing your well-being as a parent. Just make adjustments, but don’t give it all up.
