Julia McPherson is a reflexologist, working with different clients on different issues. She wrote a blog about reflexology, and in this text she presents a client who changed her sleeping pattern with help of reflexology techniques. If you want to have a tool available at any time you want, you can buy my sleeping meditation. For the price of 2 coffees………… you get your relaxing sleep!

When I first met my client, she was frequently waking in the early hours of the morning and was finding it really hard to get back to sleep.  At 52 years young, she suspected the menopause was imminent and she was really busy at work – with the support of a life-coach she’d made great improvements to her work/life balance but a good night’s sleep was still eluding her.  She’d been recommended reflexology, so got in touch with me.

As someone who really didn’t like her feet, my client was apprehensive about a therapy concentrating solely on the feet – I spent some time explaining what would happen and reassuring her it wouldn’t tickle or hurt.

In the first session, I carried out a full consultation – to gain an understanding of her medical history and current issues, and also her lifestyle, diet and personality.  I then gave her a full reflexology sequence, working over all the body reflexes (areas) and systems.  I did some additional work on the brain/head reflexes and the pineal gland (this produces the hormones that influence our sleep-wake cycles) and peppered the treatment with lots of massage and soothing movements, to promote deep relaxation.

I work on an holistic basis, so I suggested some other changes to try – cutting out caffeine, getting into a regular sleep routine and maybe trying some other mind-calming things like meditation or yoga.

The very next day, my client let me know that she still woke a couple of times, but was able to get back to sleep quite quickly – something she hadn’t previously been able to do.

Over the next 4 months, she had seven more sessions and we worked together to improve her sleep.  After each session she let me know how she’d been sleeping and each time there was an improvement.

My client continues to have reflexology monthly and always takes on board my suggestions for lifestyle changes.  She’s established a ‘good sleep strategy’ – getting to bed at the same time; spending 10 minutes reflecting on the day so her mind can be calm; walking every day; cutting out the glass of wine with her dinner; and switching to de-caffeinated drinks.

During the summer, I was thrilled to hear that she’d had her very first pedicure!  A massive achievement for someone who had hated her feet when we first met.

I am really pleased to say that my client is still reporting improvements in her sleeping pattern and is also feeling much calmer, an added bonus from her reflexology sessions.

Sleep is so important – we all need a good night’s sleep for our physical, mental and emotional well-being.  So if you have trouble getting to sleep or frequently wake, make it your mission to find something that works for you – you will feel so much better!

Sleep well,Julia
